Earlier this year, Kaitlin Smith of the Special Olympics' Colorado chapter in Greeley joined a small group of Unified Partners from around the world for a dinner hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The dinner, which was hosted around the theme of “A Celebration of Special Olympics and A Unified Generation,” recognized athletes who have worked to create a culture of inclusiveness and tolerance, joining people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. The event marks the beginning of a new youth campaign to be launched by the Special Olympics to break down biases and create a healthy and respectful generation of youth.
