In 2015, the Denver defense was a dominant force and is widely regarded as one of the best units the NFL has had for many years. Coming off the team’s Super Bowl championship, safety T.J. Ward believes the team’s defense can be even better than last year.
In a recent interview at his charity golf tournament, Ward said that there is no ceiling for the defense’s potential this year, and believes the unit can become the greatest defense of all time.
To do that, however, Denver will need to overcome the losses of Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan to free agency. The good is that the team secured all-pro linebacker Von Miller to a new six-year contract. Ward says he believes Miller is primed to rise to the challenge of leading the defense to new levels of success.
In addition to Miller’s dominating presence in the middle, the Broncos also sport three of the best cornerbacks in the league - Chris Harris, Bradley Roby and Aqib Talib.
In order to achieve the success of last year’s Super Bowl run, the defense will need to carry the load again, especially with looming questions surrounding the offense, specifically at the quarterback position.
