In a recent press release, Special Olympics announced that it has named Tom Norton, a Special Olympics coach from British Columbia, the Special Olympics North America 2015 Coach of the Year. Special Olympics hands out the award annually to one individual whose dedication and commitment stands out from the more than 120,000 other Special Olympics coaches throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Norton has been a Special Olympics British Columbia (SOBC) volunteer for over 25 years and has served as a Special Olympics track and field coach in the province for the past decade. He is also a mentor coach in the SOBC Performance Program and is known for bringing out the best in all the athletes he trains. Norton received the award on January 9, 2016, during a ceremony at an SOBC Performance Camp.
