During the NCAA March Madness Tournament, the FCA honored a pair of college basketball coaches with awards for their dedication and leadership both on and off the court. During an FCA-sponsored event at the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Convention, Lynn Plett was named the recipient of the 2018 Kay Yow Heart of a Coach Award. Named in honor of the late North Carolina State coach, the award is given annually to a basketball coach who exemplifies biblical principles throughout his or her career. In addition to leading the UCCS Mountain Lions to its first conference championship in school history this past season, Plett has initiated a team bible study program and has been affiliated with FCA for a number of years.
The following day, the assistant coach for the North Carolina men's team, Hubert Davis, was presented with the 2018 John Lotz "Barnabas" Award. The former NBA veteran and ESPN analyst is the 16th recipient of the award, which is given annually to a coach who encourages others and exhibits integrity as well as a commitment to Christ.
